NV Schloss Gobelsburg, Tradition Heritage Cuvée 10 Years, Kamptal, Austria

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Founded in 1171 by Cistercian monks, what is now known as Schloss Gobelsburg is a winery and castle in Austria’s Kamptal region run by Eva and Michael Moosbrugger. Author Karen MacNeil calls it “one of the great wine estates of the world.” Some of their most acclaimed bottlings fall under their Tradition cuvee, in which Michael approximates the vinification and elevage of monks in the early and mid-1800s, using a century and a half of their notes preserved by the estate

80% grüner veltliner and 20% riesling, this bottling received a 98 from Robert Parker, who said “There is no wine on this planet that is similar in style.” On the nose, yellow plum, poached pear, beeswax, and lily, with a hint of cloves and freshly grated ginger root. Linden blossom and even more concentrated stone fruit on the palate, with a long and satisfying finish. A striking mineral core, pulsing with vitality. Mesmerizing.
