NV Pertois-Lebrun, Derrière le Mont Aigu N°13, Grand Cru, Champagne, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Pertois-Lebrun is a small, family-run estate in Cramant, now in the hands of brothers Clément and Antoine, who represent the fifth generation to work their family’s grand cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs. Their focus has always been chardonnay, and their philosophy centers on treating each parcel with patience, care, and real respect for its individuality. Working across some of the region’s most iconic villages, they farm with a personal touch and clear intention: to let the terroir of grand cru chalk come through in every wine.

Derrière le Mont Aigu is a single-parcel Blanc de Blancs from old vines in Chouilly Grand Cru, located in the northernmost part of the Côte des Blancs where the chalk soils impart a crystalline minerality. The N°13 designation refers to the 2013 base vintage. The wine is partially aged in oak (roughly a quarter of the volume), with the rest in stainless steel, then spends nine years on the lees before disgorgement. Dosage is minimal, at 2 grams per liter.

Nine years on the lees have imparted striking depth: acacia blossom, lemon zest, wet stone, and brioche layered over a chalky, saline backbone. The acidity is bright and persistent, carrying the wine through a long, mineral finish.
