2024 Aline Beauné, Reconnaissance, Montagny, Burgundy, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Aline's passion, vision, and the sheer quality of her wines leave a profound impression. It's astonishing that such exquisite wines are still so reasonably priced. Aline's dedication to her craft and her terroir shines through in every bottle. Now is the moment to embrace these wines before Aline's star rises and her creations become sought after on a larger scale.

Reconnaissance is Aline's homage cuvée, first made in 2022 from a single parcel of chardonnay in the heart of the village, planted by her mother some forty years ago on the ground where the family's story began. The name is the French word for gratitude, and the winemaking follows suit: fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged entirely in one old Alsatian foudre that Aline chose because its capacity matches the parcel's yield almost to the liter. The 2024 season asked a great deal of her. Mildew arrived in June and the crop came in a third smaller than 2023, but the grapes reached the cellar healthy in mid-September, and she held the wine in cask until March 2026, well past her usual November bottling, because she felt the vintage needed the time.

The patience paid off. The foudre gives this wine its glossy, seamless texture, and in 2024 that texture underpins white peach and apricot through a thread of grapefruit to a long, salty finish that lands somewhere near blood orange. Aline calls the cuvée straight and dynamic, and this vintage is exactly that: coiled, fresh, and carrying more substance than the site has shown before. Drink now with a solid decant or through 2034.
