2023 Weingut Schregel, Lorch Bodenthal-Steinberg, Trocken, Rheingau, Germany - PRE ARRIVAL

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

In the storied vineyards of the Rheingau, Alexander Schregel is forging his own path—one that honors tradition while boldly defying it. Raised in the vines and trained at Geisenheim, he cut his teeth managing 130 hectares at Josef Leitz before staking his claim on just 1.5 hectares in Rüdesheim’s most revered sites. He farms organically and biodynamically, harvesting by hand and letting each vintage speak for itself. In the cellar, he rejects rigid German winemaking conventions, allowing spontaneous fermentations, embracing natural fluctuations, and foregoing fining and filtration. The result? Rieslings and spätburgunders that pulse with energy, texture, and purity.

This bottling marks Schregel’s first release from the grand cru site Bodental-Steinberg in Lorch, a steep, south-facing slope shaped by slate, sandstone, and quartzite. Lorch’s rugged soils give the Rheingau some of its most distinctive voices, and Schregel’s take is both thrilling and exacting, something to take extra note of when just 750 bottles were made!

Pressed from whole clusters and fermented with ambient yeast, the wine spent 10 months on its lees in stainless steel before bottling, unfined and unfiltered. On the nose, it hums with herbal lift, wet stone, citrus, and peach skin. The palate is electric with minerality and precision, finishing long, saline, and composed. It’s a riesling that vibrates with quiet force and is an arresting debut from a vineyard destined to be central to Schregel’s future.
