2023 Thibaud Boudignon, Clos de Fremine, Savennieres, Loire Valley, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

From one of the Loire’s most celebrated vignerons, Clos de Frémine is a study in grace and detail. This 1.5-hectare parcel, planted in 2015 from massale selections of old-vine chenin blanc, sits adjacent to Clos de la Hutte in the commune of La Possonnière. Here, sandy soils over schist lend a lift and clarity to the wine, making Frémine the most floral and ethereal of Boudignon’s Savennières.

Frémine opens with aromas of tangerine peel, white peach, honey blossom, and quince, finishing with a savory thread of citrus, wet stone, and saline tension. Its elegant texture and restrained power are classic Boudignon—no malolactic fermentation, minimal new oak, and a focus on purity above all.

Working from a small, modern cellar near his top parcels, Boudignon farms organically, vinifies with native yeasts, and favors long aging on lees. His devotion to detail in both vineyard and cellar has made him one of the region’s brightest stars, with wines that are crystalline, poised, and profoundly expressive. This is from a site that seems destined for greatness in the hands of one of the region’s most gifted stewards.
