2023 François Mikulski, Meursault, Burgundy, France - PRE ARRIVAL

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

François’ Mikulski’s father, Lieutenant Mieczyslaw Mikulski, escaped from occupied Poland in 1939. Fleeing to England, he joined the Resistance troops of the Free Polish Forces. He met his wife, a Burgundy native, working on an English army base, and they moved together to Brussels, where François was born. François spent his formative summers in Burgundy and fell in love with the pastoral lifestyle—his dream of making wine was born. He inherited his first vines in Meursault in 1992 and has since pursued his vision of an authentic, pure Meursault. François Mikulski is a practitioner of lutte raisonnée, employing the most natural and organic vineyard practices possible. The grapes are harvested meticulously and destemmed before a light pressing and full débourbage. After fermentation, the wines are racked into 20% new oak barrels, where they undergo malolactic fermentation and 18 months of aging.

This village Meursault is drawn from a mosaic of chardonnay parcels—Meix Chavaux, Les Pelles Dessus, Chaumes de Narvaux, Moulin Landin, Limozin, Pellans, and Tillets—planted between 1950 and 1999 and rooted in fine scree soils rich in limestone gravel. Each site is vinified separately, with select plots occasionally bottled on their own, and the final blend is shaped to preserve both the minerality of the terroir and the signature elegance of Mikulski’s style. Texture and freshness are in perfect sync here, with silkiness on the palate, finely integrated oak, a touch of cream, and a persistent, mineral finish.
