2023 Château Simone, Rosé, Palette, France (pre-arrival)

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

It’s hard to find a Provencal rosé as well-respected as Château Simone. You might even call it revered. Forget what you think you know about Provencal rosé; what you’re about to experience is a serious wine of depth and vibrance.

The Rougier family has helmed this estate for two centuries, and holds almost all the land in the tiny Palette appellation south of Aix-en-Provence. This special microclimate, with its encircling pine forests, nearby Mont Sainte-Victoire, and the Arc River, is planted with old vines meant for red, white, and rosé. In fact, the rosé blend is identical to that of the rouge.

Both as far as appearance and texture/flavor, is the furthest thing from the rose-petal-pale, “rosé the day away” beach juice that you sometimes find from Provence. If anything, it’s almost a gray-tinted rose color, a more wizened pink, if you will, thanks to lees contact and barrel aging.

The wine holds onto its natural acidity, thanks to the lack of malolactic fermentation, and has notes of ripe-tomorrow raspberry, raspberry leaf, and forest herbs. It’s a delicious wine, to be sure, but one with unmistakable gravitas.

Only around 1500 bottles of this make it to the US every year, and they’re quickly swept up. We’re so pleased to share this tiny-production, category-transcending gem with you.

These wines are pre-arrival with an estimated ship date of late May. Your wines will ship as weather permits and the daily range is consistently between 45 and 74 degrees. Please note pre-arrival sales are non-refundable as suppliers require us to make binding commitments and deposits to secure the wine.
