2023 Château de Plaisance, La Grand Pièce, Ronceray, Anjou, Loire Valley, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

La Grand Pièce is the crown jewel of Château de Plaisance. This old-vine, single-parcel expression of dry chenin blanc is grown on the steep, south-facing slopes of the Chaume hill. The 0.8-hectare site, rooted in sandstone and puddingstone over schist, produces one of the most profound and age-worthy wines from this rising appellation.

Now under the stewardship of Vanessa Cherruau, Château de Plaisance has quickly become a reference point in Anjou for expressive, biodynamically farmed chenin blanc. Cherruau took over the historic estate in 2019 and has since brought new life to its exceptional terroirs—working with rigorous intent, low-intervention methods, and an uncompromising environmental ethic.

La Grand Pièce is pressed slowly and gently for over four hours, fermented with ambient yeast, and aged in older barrels for 12 months with partial malolactic conversion. The wine is textured and intense, with aromas of quince, mirabelle plum, dried flowers, and warm toast. The palate is dense yet vibrant, anchored by the mineral power of its site and a deep saline core that carries through the finish.

Built to evolve beautifully in the cellar, and not to be missed.
