2023 Château de Plaisance, Grand Lopin, Anjou, Loire Valley, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Grown on the sunlit slopes of the Chaume hill, Grand Lopin is a singular red—quite literally. Château de Plaisance holds the only red grape plantings on this storied site, long revered for its noble sweet wines. In Vanessa Cherruau’s hands, this south-facing parcel reveals a completely different expression of the hill: floral, savory, and elegantly structured.

This certified biodynamic blend of cabernet sauvignon (60%) and cabernet franc (40%) comes from a single lieu-dit with spilite over schist bedrock and vines more than 35 years old. The grapes are fully de-stemmed and undergo a three-week ambient fermentation before aging 11 months in used barrels.

The result is graceful yet grounded—a red-fruited, spice-laced wine with a silky frame, lifted acidity, and an undercurrent of mineral tension. Bursting with charm and freshness, Grand Lopin is as rare as it is delicious: a soulful Loire red from a place known for anything but.
