2022 Zuccardi, Botanico, Chardonnay, Gualtallary, AR

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

What started in 1963 as a project to showcase Alberto Zuccardi’s innovative irrigation system has evolved over the course of three generations into one of Argentina’s most visionary estates. Zuccardi marks the first Argentine wine brand to earn three 100-point scores from Robert Parker and our first Argentine wine offering.

Director of winemaking Sebastián Zuccardi joined the family business in 2002, and immediately looked to the Uco Valley—high-altitude vineyards at the foot of the Andes, where alluvial soils rich in calcium carbonate combine with extreme diurnal temperature shifts to produce wine of rare intensity and elegance.

From Chardonnay grown between 1,360 and 1,385 meters on calcareous limestone dotted with native succulents, thyme, and broom, the resulting wine was aged 90% in concrete eggs and 10% in used, untoasted 500-liter French oak barrels. No malolactic fermentation was allowed. Fresh and elegant, notes of white peach and fennel mesh with lemon blossom and crushed river rock, culminating in a persistent mineral finish. James Suckling awarded this “delicious” wine 96 points.
