Romain Papilloud, his wife Gladys, and their son Vincent work four hectares of vines in the heart of the breathtaking Valais. Viticulture on these steep Alpine slopes is a Herculean feat, with few opportunities to utilize machinery. Those who feel called to work in this place, like la famille Papilloud, understand the necessity of an intimate connection with their land (and a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar).
Amandoleyre, a vineyard named for the almond trees that once grew here, is planted with fendant, also called chasselas. Fendant, known for its wide range of terroir expression, here finds structure and elegance, with notes of lemon blossom, fennel, hazelnut, lemon curd, and alpine herbs such as génépi blanc. Crisp acidity and glacial minerality preserve balance, as well as a hint of lemon-pith-like bitterness. As breathtaking as the slopes from whence it came.
The integrity of your wine is our highest concern. Orders placed during the summer months will be put on hold and fulfilled as soon as temperatures permit. Learn more here.
