2022 Pierre Morey, Batard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Burgundy, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Few names in Meursault carry the quiet authority of Pierre Morey. A torchbearer for biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy, Pierre’s influence radiates far beyond his own domaine—his decades at Domaine Leflaive helped chart a new course for some of the region’s most storied vineyards. Today, the legacy continues under the stewardship of his daughter, Anne Morey, whose thoughtful, exacting work in both vineyard and cellar ensures the domaine’s wines remain among the most articulate expressions of Côte de Beaune terroir.

Bâtard-Montrachet, the grand cru that bridges Puligny and Chassagne, needs little introduction—but in the Moreys’ hands, it speaks in a distinct dialect. Their 0.49-hectare plot, planted in 1965, sits just below Le Montrachet in the upper part of Bâtard, where shallow, mineral-rich soils rest atop fast-draining bedrock. It’s a site of quiet tension and formidable pedigree, farmed since 1997 under certified biodynamic principles, with an intimacy that comes from generational stewardship.

The 2022 vintage was pressed gently and settled over 24 hours before fermenting with native yeasts on fine lees in barrel, including 20–50% new oak. The élevage stretches over 16 to 20 months, and fining or filtration is employed only if absolutely necessary. The resulting wine is as composed as it is profound—gleaming with orchard fruit and citrus oil, anchored by a crystalline core of limestone, and carrying the kind of resonance that only time, humility, and fidelity to place can achieve.
