2022 Nicolas Faure, Aloxe-Corton Rouge, Burgundy, FR

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Nicolas Faure’s wines have developed a cult following, yet his journey into winemaking is anything but traditional. He wasn’t born into a winemaking family, nor did he inherit grand vineyards. Instead, his path took him through legendary estates like Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Domaine Chave, where he honed his skills before piecing together his own domaine, now just one hectare in size. His vision is simple but profound: treat every vine as if it were Grand Cru.

The 2022 Aloxe-Corton Village from Faure is a window into the artistry and philosophy of one of Burgundy’s most intriguing winemakers. From two lieux-dits, Valozières and Caillettes, totaling just 0.13 hectares, this wine is crafted with meticulous care and an unwavering respect. Faure’s plots, planted in the 1960s, are farmed sustainably, with vines pruned Poussard-style for balance and longevity. The resulting pinot noir is vinified with 100% whole clusters and ambient yeasts, aged for 16 months in used barrels to preserve its pure, site-specific expression.

The 2022 Aloxe-Corton reveals a finely tuned bouquet of red cherries, crushed strawberries, and dried rose petals. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and vibrant, with delicate acidity and depth. A whisper of summer warmth lingers on the finish, adding charm to its focused, precise structure. Neal Martin notes its “satisfying depth” and refined character, making it a snapshot of Aloxe-Corton’s elegance.

With tiny quantities and surging demand, the 2022 Aloxe-Corton Rouge is both a collector’s prize and a wine to enjoy with good friends. Its balance of energy and elegance makes it a standout expression of Aloxe-Corton and another feather in Nicolas Faure’s already-impressive cap.
