2022 Nicolas Barbou, Folie Insolente, Touraine, Loire Valley, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

The glorious thing about wine is that there’s no canon. Yes, there are beloved producers. Yes, we all have our favorite(s). But, there’s never any shame in not having tried a wine, region, or producer before.

This is especially true of the wines of Nicolas Barbou, whose wines you’d have had a tricky time finding. He is not yet distributed in the United States; we brought these wines in directly, exclusively for our club members.

Nicolas is a young Loire Valley native, who grew up in a winemaking family. His father, Dominique, owns Domaine des Corbillières, known for its elegant sauvignon blanc. Nicolas further developed his winemaking chops nearby in Burgundy and not-so-nearby in New Zealand. He was in Vosne Romanee working with Jean Yves Bizot until 2021, when he started his own project in Touraine.

This wine is pure and mineral, with notes of honeydew melon and tangerine freshly plucked from the tree. Balanced, lively, and utterly fresh. 100% sauvignon blanc from his Oisly vineyard, it spent 20 months in bottle. Folie Insolente is from vines planted in the early 2000s. Nicolas considers art and wine life’s “supreme joys” and clearly has a knack for sauvignon blanc.

We’re thrilled to get to share this beauty with you.
