2022 Domaine Prieuré-Roch, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Grand Cru, Burgundy, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

When Henry-Frédéric Roch established Domaine Prieuré Roch in 1988, he brought with him the exacting standards of DRC and a philosophy he describes not as "making" wine but as managing a natural process—listening to and stewarding the vines through the seasons. The result is a collection of wines so vibrant and refined that they've become emblematic of what's possible when tradition and minimal intervention are practiced with vision and humility.

Since 1994, the domaine has leased one hectare of 85-year-old vines in Clos de Bèze, planted on “Calcaire de Prémeaux,” a clay-limestone. One of the oldest vineyards in France, it dates back to the 12th century when monks from the Abbey of Bèze first planted it with vines. The domaine describes this as "a mythical wine, complex and generous, at the same time fresh and concentrated.”

2022 posed myriad challenges in the vineyard, from drought to labor shortages, but the quality of the resulting grapes (and wine) was exceptional. In fact, 2022 has been compared to 2002, famously one of the domaine’s best. Expect layers of rich, ripe fruit—raspberry, strawberry, and black cherry—interwoven with baking spice and damask rose. Bright acidity, elegant tannins, and a strong mineral core provide structure. Around 3600 bottles produced, most of which did not make their way to the US.
