Caroline Lestimé has quietly shaped Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard into one of Burgundy’s most admired white wine estates. Since taking the reins from her father in 1989, she has introduced organic certification, biodynamic farming, and a signature style defined by precision and restraint. Her wines lean toward elegance over opulence, with a clarity and mineral expression that set them apart from the broader, more muscular style often associated with Chassagne.
Les Caillerets is Gagnard’s crown jewel and a wine that seems almost too complete to critique. Sourced from two prime parcels of chardonnay: the steep, stony Les Combards and the convex spine of En Caillerets, this 1er Cru bottling channels the vineyard’s signature cut and mineral tension into a wine of striking balance and finesse. Layered and composed, it opens slowly to reveal citrus oil, white flowers, and crushed stone in seamless succession. A benchmark Chassagne, don’t be in a hurry to enjoy it. This is a wine that rewards patience in the glass.
