2022 Domaine de Bellevue / Jérôme Bretaudeau, Granit: Clos des Perrières, Muscadet, Loire Valley, France - PRE ARRIVAL

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Jérôme Bretaudeau is one of the Loire’s most compelling iconoclasts and an avant-garde force in Muscadet. Where tradition says “melon or bust,” he replies with pinot noir, merlot, savagnin, and concrete eggs. Since founding Domaine de Bellevue in 2001, he’s quietly redefined what’s possible in this oyster-loving corner of the Loire, farming biodynamically across 15 hectares of granite- and gabbro-rich soils and vinifying with a fearless sense of experimentation. From extended lees aging to amphorae, skin contact, and harvests organized by vine age to better understand each plant’s personality, his wines challenge convention at every turn.

Jérôme’s deep curiosity and focus on terroir brings us to this parcel, planted in the late 1980s on pink and white granite shot through with quartz. The wine rests on its lees for 18 to 24 months in large concrete tanks, gaining roundness and depth while holding fast to its freshness and verve. A beautiful counterpoint to explore alongside his other single-vineyard wines.
