Every so often, a wine arrives that feels like a transmission—not just of grape or terroir, but of two people’s vision, labor, and love. Amante del Sole is just that. We could not be more excited to be part of the U.S. debut of Cián du Giorgi, the heroic hillside project of Riccardo Giorgi and Adeline Maillard, whose devotion to the Cinque Terre has been both personal and profound.
After years working in Bordeaux—he as an enologist, she in wine marketing—Riccardo and Adeline traded the certainties of France for the steep terraces of Liguria, drawn by the neglected beauty of century-old vineyards clinging to cliffs above the sea. They settled in San Bernardino, between Vernazza and Riomaggiore, and began the painstaking restoration of one hectare of abandoned vines. Dry stone walls were rebuilt, footpaths cleared, vines coaxed back to life. Today, the vineyard is a vibrant mosaic of indigenous varieties—Bosco, Albarola, Vermentino, and others—all farmed organically and worked entirely by hand under low pergola.
Amante del Sole is a skin-contact white wine made in the most classical of Ligurian styles. Fermentation is spontaneous, with no added yeasts, and aging takes place in glass demijohns—a choice that honors tradition while preserving freshness. In the glass, the wine glows gold and opens with aromas of orange blossom, ripe yellow fruit, citrus peel, and a whisper of honey. On the palate, it’s dense yet lifted—fruity, saline, and delicately tannic, with a long, mineral finish that hums with citrus and iodine.
Mature, warm, and persistent, Amante del Sole is as much a tribute to the light and salt of the Cinque Terre as it is to the people reviving its hills by hand. Just a few thousand bottles are made. We’re honored to share it.
