Few wines capture the poetry of place quite like this one. Amante dei Venti—“lover of the winds”—is a tribute to the constant sea breezes that sculpt the terraces of the Cinque Terre and carry their salinity through the vines. It’s also the most delicate, lifted expression from Cián du Giorgi, the tiny one-hectare estate carved out of steep coastal cliffs by Riccardo Giorgi and Adeline Maillard.
After years spent working in Bordeaux—he as an enologist, she in wine marketing—Riccardo and Adeline returned to Liguria to revive abandoned terraces above Vernazza and Riomaggiore. The vines they found, many over a century old, are rooted in ancient stone and tradition: low pergola-trained, planted to native varieties like Bosco, Albarola, Vermentino, and a handful of rare local grapes. Farming is entirely organic, and the work is done by hand on slopes where no machinery can pass.
Amante dei Venti is vinified with native yeasts and aged across a thoughtful blend of amphora, stainless steel, and seasoned oak. In the glass, it’s straw yellow with golden highlights, and unfolds slowly—white flowers, pear, and peach giving way to citrus zest, wild herbs, and the faintest suggestion of eucalyptus. The palate is incisive and crystalline, pulsing with energy and minerality, before resolving into a long, savory finish with notes of flint and verbena.
It’s a wine of purity and presence—succinct, sea-born, and deeply tied to the wind-beaten terraces that inspired it. We could not be more excited to be part of the U.S. debut of Cián du Giorgi.
