While the name Cesare Bussolo may be new to you, his work won't be. Cesare has spent most of his winemaking life as the right-hand man to Roberto Voerzio, whose wines are among the most sought-after in Barolo. In 2009, Cesare purchased his first vineyards in La Morra, and over time, added generous leases—including plots once under Voerzio's own care. He brings the same rigor to his own work: organic farming, high-density planting, multiple green harvests, and precision in the cellar. The result? Wines that echo Voerzio's in their seamless balance of power and grace while carrying Cesare's understated signature.
This nebbiolo comes from high-density rows in La Morra that Roberto Voerzio leased to Cesare, worked with the same demanding green harvests as his own wines, so the yields come in meager but gorgeous. First made in 2017, it is his classic Barolo in the range, built on clarity and drinkability rather than sheer weight.
In the cellar it ages 24 months in barrique and tonneaux, with further time settling in bottle before release. The 2022 vintage, warm and generous in La Morra, suits its open style. The wine is vivid and precise: rose, tar, and dried thyme lead into sweet red cherry and raspberry so clear the fruit feels lit from within. Every part is lifted and precise, a bottle that shows Cesare's meticulous hand and the magic of these slopes.
