In the 1960s, winemaker Antoine Abatucci became determined to preserve Corsica’s native grapes. He collected wild vine cuttings from across the island and replanted them on his estate. Today, Jean-Charles Abbatucci and his granddaughter, Faustine, continue this legacy, treating the vines with seawater and using sheep for weed control. The estate flourishes with wild thyme, lavender, and immortelles, creating a biodiverse haven. Jean-Claude, known for playing traditional Corsican music to the vines and wines, adds a unique touch to their craft.
Their Les Insolites (“the unusual”) range, from which this bottle hails, is a liquid testament to their love for this beautiful, wild place. Monte Mare is 100% sciaccarellu (mammolo) grown on granite hillsides. Vivid garnet hues, with aromas of pomegranate, both fresh and dried wild strawberry, and a hint of kelp. A kaleidoscope of fresh, cooked, and dried strawberry on the palate, with hints of violet leaf and kombu. Silky tannin, juxtaposed with a powerful mineral core. Poignant and delightful.
This wine is a pre-sale with expected arrival of end of year.
