2021 Raul Perez, Ultreia de Paluezas, Bierzo, Spain

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Anything made by Raúl Pérez is a treasure. Widely regarded as one of Spain’s most talented and exciting winemakers, Pérez is known for his love of indigenous Spanish grapes, sourced impeccably and vinified in tiny amounts.

Though Raúl’s projects span the Spanish wine appellations, his Bierzo lineup has a personal touch. This is where he lives, and where his family has worked as wine growers for over 300 years. Ultreia de Paluezas, only produced in great vintages, is sourced from a century-old, formerly abandoned vineyard on the southwestern part of Bierzo, which Raúl has coaxed back to life over the course of several vintages. A surprising feature of this .7 hectare plot is limestone soil, a rarity in Bierzo, which imbues the mencia with a sort of unworldly ethereal nature.

The 2021 is evocative of the dizzying pleasures of high summer, with notes of black raspberry, ripe red cherry, macerated strawberry, and hibiscus tea. These dazzling aromatics are supported on the palate with crisp acidity, a sleek mineral core, and chalky, fine tannin. A bewitching wine, which Robert Parker awarded a 97. Only 960 bottles made, which makes us even more honored to share it with you.

This wine is a pre-sale with expected arrival of end of year.
