2021 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy, FR

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is “the magician of white Burgundy.” He worked in his father, Marc Colin’s, domaine for over a decade before beginning his own domaine alongside his wife Caroline Morey. In the intervening years, he has fast become an icon in the Cote de Beaune and is now thought of as one of Burgundy’s great producers. His fastidious farming, incredible attention to detail, use of larger demi-muid barrels, and long elevage, makes each one of his bottlings a clear expression of its terroir and a study in mineral-driven Chardonnay.

The 2021 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy, France, is a shimmering example of why PYCM is idolized for their way with chardonnay. A harmonious blend from four parcels, including Les Houillères, En Journoblot, Les Beuttes, and Ancegnières, the wine is impeccably balanced, offering medium weight and a pleasing tension that carries through to the finish. Bright citrus notes, particularly lime and lemon, mingle with white stone fruits, adding vibrancy and depth. A slightly viscous texture and spicy undertones lend a refined richness, while the clean, sneaky-long finish showcases fine extract and elegance.

While approachable in its youth, the 2021 Vieilles Vignes is built for aging and will develop even greater complexity over time. Best enjoyed from 2026 to 2040, this wine will reward patience, offering 15-20 years of drinking pleasure.
