2021 Domaine Roulot, Meursault, Clos des Bouchères, 1er Cru, Burgundy, France - Magnum

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

If you want to see a Burgundy lover light up, mention Jean-Marc Roulot. Though Domaine Roulot has been a standard-bearer in the region shortly since its founding in 1830, Jean-Marc (at the helm since the 1980s) is famous for championing terroir expression by way of pure, perfectly ripe fruit. There are few wines and winemakers more iconic. Today the domaine is revered for its precise interpretations of Meursault’s slope, shaped by old vines, organic farming since 1989, and highly detailed cellar work that reveals each site with exceptional clarity.

Clos des Bouchères is Roulot’s 1.3-hectare monopole, a walled parcel in the center of Meursault long regarded as one of the appellation’s most refined premier crus. The vineyard is biodynamically farmed and its élevage follows Roulot’s signature approach: native yeast fermentation in barrel, a modest percentage of new oak, full malolactic conversion, and extended aging on fine lees without bâtonnage.

In 2021, this combination of site and structure produced a wine of striking precision. The cooler season emphasized tension, mineral drive, and transparency, allowing the vineyard’s inherent elegance to take the lead. The wine shows depth without weight, clarity without austerity, and a sustained, finely detailed finish that speaks to Bouchères at its most complete. It is a standout success for the vintage and a reminder of why this monopole is often considered one of Meursault’s most profound and prized premier crus.
