Elise Bougy is part of a new wave of Champagne growers rethinking the region from the ground up. After returning to her native Les Mesneux in 2016 to take over her family’s estate, she transitioned the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, earning certification in 2022. Her three hectares span 1er Cru parcels in the Montagne de Reims and a prized Grand Cru plot in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, including a cherished family holding on pure chalk soils. With minimal intervention in the cellar and a fierce devotion to site expression, Bougy crafts Champagnes that are vibrant, tense, and resolutely alive.
Vibrations ML is the most refined expression of Elise Bougy’s cherished Grand Cru parcel, Chétillon de Haut—a vineyard of pure, iodized chalk in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Named for the idea that energy lives within a plot, a person, or a wine, this cuvée reflects the resonance Bougy feels with this place. The 2020 edition was crafted from the finest chardonnay grapes of the vintage, fermented with native yeasts and aged in one 600L demi-muid and one 300L barrel, before resting 42 months on lees under natural cork. No fining, no filtration, no dosage.
The result is deeply pure, almost architectural in its precision. Airy and mineral, with citrus zest and white blossom, a saline tension unfolds in quiet, compelling layers. Just 637 bottles were made, each one a singular imprint of time, place, and intuition.
