Yes Collective is the only place in the country to acquire Castello di Montepò’s Schidione.
Jacopo Biondi Santi is a winemaker who honors tradition while fearlessly forging his own path. Born into the legendary Biondi Santi family—the very creators of Brunello di Montalcino—he chose to step away from his ancestral estate in the early 1990s, selling his share of the holdings and striking out on his own.
His vision led him to Maremma, where he acquired Castello di Montepò, a 12th-century fortress surrounded by land with the perfect altitude, terrain, and wind exposure for cultivating sangiovese. There, he planted BBS11, a sangiovese grosso clone unique to the Biondi Santi lineage, alongside cabernet sauvignon and merlot. From this historic estate, he has created one of Tuscany’s definitive Super Tuscans.
Schidione is a blend of 40% Biondi Santi’s heritage sangiovese clone and 40% cabernet sauvignon, with the remainder filled by plush, expressive merlot. This wine is a testament to Tuscany’s remarkable terroir—where centuries-old native varietals and Bordeaux imports converge to create something singular, powerful, and enduring. The wine is a concerto of plush black plum, black currant, stones and clove, and mint, thyme, and eucalyptus. A velvety structure of tannins fills the wine with tone.
