Jacopo Biondi Santi crafts Super Tuscans that seamlessly blend centuries of tradition with modern innovation. As a descendant of the Biondi Santi family, who literally created Brunello di Montalcino in the mid-19th century, Jacopo chose to forge his own path. In the early 1990s, he sold his share of the Biondi Santi estate in Brunello and purchased Castello di Montepò in Maremma. Recognizing the 12th-century castle’s grounds for their ideal altitude, terrain, and wind exposure, he saw the potential for creating a distinctive Sangiovese terroir. He planted Sangiovese Grosso BBS11, a clone unique to the Biondi Santi family, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and went on to create one of the definitive Super Tuscans.
