2020 Bérêche et Fils, Les Beaux Regards, 1er Cru, Champagne, FR

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche are synonymous with Champagne’s most expressive and quietly coveted wines. Born into a family with winemaking roots stretching back to the 1800s, the brothers joined their father Jean-Pierre in 2004, quickly earning a reputation for their near-obsessive dedication to quality. A team of ten tends their nine hectares biodynamically, with each parcel vinified and aged separately in barrel. Even en tirage, bottles are sealed under cork—a rarity—and each one is hand disgorged. They maintain a solera of sorts, begun in 1985, carefully drawing off two-thirds each year and replenishing it anew. It’s little wonder that their wines have become some of Champagne’s most coveted.

Les Beaux Regards is sourced from two prized plots of chardonnay in Ludes: one planted by their father in 1970, and a remarkable parcel planted in 1902 by their great-grandfather. Aged without malolactic fermentation and finished with 4g/L dosage, this 1er Cru is layered with chalky minerality and bright, crystalline structure.
