2019 Stella di Campalto, Bacia, Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Stella di Campalto produces some of the most soulful and singular wines in Montalcino from her remote, biodynamically farmed estate in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, a southeastern outpost of the appellation. In a region long shaped by patriarchal tradition, Stella’s work is grounded in intuition, sensitivity, and deep respect for nature. Each wine is vinified and aged with extraordinary care, released only when she believes it has fully come into itself.

The 2019 Bacia comes from a single cherished parcel, and how like a kiss it is! One of the estate’s most emotionally expressive wines, it carries all the romance of a swelling Morricone score. Stella named the vintage L’allegria ,or cheerfulness, and it shows. After 34 months in cask and nearly 2.5 years in bottle, this Brunello is radiant, tensile, and quietly profound. The nose is vivid and multi-layered: wild cherry, blood orange, rose petal, cedar, and incense, lifted by herbal notes and a trace of warm earth. On the palate, Bacia moves with grace with silky tannins and bright acidity framing red berries, mineral tension, and a long, whispering finish. There’s both joy and depth here embodying what Stella calls “invigorating, like a good kiss,” full of energy, tension, and soul.
