2018 Zuccardi, Finca Los Membrillos, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paraje Altamira, AR

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

What started in 1963 as a project to showcase Alberto Zuccardi’s innovative irrigation system has evolved over the course of three generations into one of Argentina’s most visionary estates. Zuccardi marks the first Argentine wine brand to earn three 100-point scores from Robert Parker and our first Argentine wine offering.

Director of winemaking Sebastián Zuccardi joined the family business in 2002, and immediately looked to the Uco Valley—high-altitude vineyards at the foot of the Andes, where alluvial soils rich in calcium carbonate combine with extreme diurnal temperature shifts to produce wine of rare intensity and elegance.

Though managed by the Zuccardi family since 2008, these Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted over 20 years ago, featuring traditional regional touches, such as a furrow irrigation system, carob wood posts, and rows of quince trees (membrillo) surrounding the vineyard. Aged partially in concrete and partially in used 500-L French oak barrels, the resulting wine shows balance and restraint. Notes of black cherry, Mirabelle plum, and new leather jacket with grainy tannins throughout. Open for a hearty dinner with good friends.
