Stella di Campalto produces some of the most soulful and singular wines in Montalcino from her remote, biodynamically farmed estate in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, a southeastern outpost of the appellation. In a region long shaped by patriarchal tradition, Stella’s work is grounded in intuition, sensitivity, and deep respect for nature. Each wine is vinified and aged with extraordinary care, released only when she believes it has fully come into itself.
Aria (meaning “air”) is Stella’s most lifted and high-toned expression of sangiovese. Graceful, understated, and resonant, it comes from the cooler 2018 vintage and spent over three years in cask and nearly three more in bottle before release. This extended aging, longer than the more concentrated 2019 Bacia, allowed the wine’s delicate structure to fully integrate. Aromas of rose petal, wild strawberry, blood orange, and sandalwood rise from the glass, supported by crushed herbs and a subtle mineral edge. The palate is elegant and finely textured, with silky tannins, vivid acidity, and lingering layers of red fruit and spice that carry through the long finish.
This is a Brunello of uncommon finesse and clarity. An airy, soulful expression of both vintage and place.
