2010 Il Molino di Grace, Gratius, Tuscany, Italy, Magnum

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Il Molino di Grace is a Chianti estate devoted to producing traditional, terroir specific Chianti Classico. Il Molino di Grace was formed in the 1990s by Frank Grace, but the vineyards which the winery farms have been under vine for over three and a half centuries. It was first farmed by monks from the nearby monastery, these vineyards have produced astonishing wines for hundreds of years. Frank Grace and his sons approach the winemaking with a nod both to modern, organic wine production, and to the artisanal traditions of the old masters. The Graces’ gentle stewarding of the relationship between the vines and the verdant Chianti ecology produces wines worth regard.

Released directly from the winery cellar to ours after our visit last year, these magnums have never been available to the public before. Gratius is a celebratory Super Tuscan, a field blend expression of wholly indigenous fruit (Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino) hailing from the highest and oldest single vineyard on the estate at 400m. The grapes are harvested by hand and go through a 20 day maceration in open new barriques with gentle punch downs. The wine then ages for 24 months in those same French barriques. This wine shows lively spiced red plums and black cherries, a whiff of balsamic and blue gentian flower, saddle leather and oregano and fresh brewed coffee, the pepperiness of time is starting to show.

The integrity of your wine is our highest concern. Orders placed during the summer months will be put on hold and fulfilled as soon as temperatures permit. Learn more here.
