2007 Castello di Ama, Vigneto Bellavista, Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Castello di Ama is producing some of the best sangiovese in Tuscany, meaning they do things a bit differently than most. For one thing, they save their best sangiovese for their Chianti Classico, as opposed to blending it into Super Tuscans like many of their neighbors. Their beloved Chianti Classico is produced each year, but their super-limited Vigneto Bellavista cru is produced only in exceptional vintages.

A blend of sangiovese and malvasia nera grown on clay and calcerous soil, this wine is striking in its juxtaposition of weight and elegance. Notes of tart cherry, red currant, tea roses, dusty mint, and worn-in leather jacket cascade out of the glass, held together with polished tannins. This received a 93 from Wine Spectator, a 95 from Wine Spectator, and a 97 from Wine Advocate. Prepare to be dazzled.
