2022 Domaine Prieuré-Roch, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Dessus Les Gollardes, Burgundy, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

When Henry-Frédéric Roch established Domaine Prieuré Roch in 1988, he brought with him the exacting standards of DRC and a philosophy he describes not as "making" wine but as managing a natural process—listening to and stewarding the vines through the seasons. The result is a collection of wines so vibrant and refined that they've become emblematic of what's possible when tradition and minimal intervention are practiced with vision and humility.

Dessus Les Gollardes, only in the Prieuré-Roch portfolio since 2018, comes from cool, steep vineyards on the northern backside of Savigny-lès-Beaune that provide lovely acidity and minerality. The domaine describes this Pinot Noir as having "a 'Côte de Nuits' taste, despite being further south than Ladoix. The wines are greedy!"

Invoking the legendary 2002 vintage, the domaine points to 2022 as a year of uncommon quality, achieved against the odds of drought and heat. Expect vibrant red cherry and wild raspberry with vivid notes of violet and peony, sprinkled with a touch of clove. Striking, cool minerality and fine-grained tannins carry through a persistent finish. A remarkable wine, which will only improve over the next 8-10 years.
