We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Jérôme Bretaudeau is one of the Loire’s most compelling iconoclasts and an avant-garde force in Muscadet. Where tradition says “melon or bust,” he replies with pinot noir, merlot, savagnin, and concrete eggs. Since founding Domaine de Bellevue in 2001, he’s quietly redefined what’s possible in this oyster-loving corner of the Loire, farming biodynamically across 15 hectares of granite- and gabbro-rich soils and vinifying with a fearless sense of experimentation. From extended lees aging to amphorae, skin contact, and harvests organized by vine age to better understand each plant’s personality, his wines challenge convention at every turn.

Gaïa is his old-vine melon de bourgogne from sandy, silty topsoils over volcanic gabbro, the bedrock that gives the wine its saline drive. The parcel's age and low yields concentrate the fruit, while the poor, stony ground sends the roots deep for the mineral grounding Bretaudeau is after.

Named for its vessel, the Ovoïde ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages up to 2 years in concrete egg, the shape keeping the wine in slow motion on its lees without a note of oak. Saline and sculpted, with notes of citrus peel, green almond, and smoke, Gaïa is both elemental and avant-garde. A study in terroir, texture, and time-transcending technique.
