2021 Frederic Savart, Les Noues, 1er Cru, Champagne, France

We come together around the idea of saying “yes”: A small word that contains everything.

Amongst the first round of ‘grower champagne’ producers to break into the US market, the work of Frederic Savart has always been compelling and continues to be a touchstone for thoughtful, terroir-driven Champagne. Of course, the downside to producers like this becoming more well known is that there is less of it to go around. Working with just 4 hectares of pinot noir and chardonnay across two villages, Ecueil and Villers-aux-Noeuds, the production has not increased. The demand certainly has. There are only a few thousand cases to share globally each year, and we are honored to be home to these few bottles.

Les Noues carries the signature Savart elegance and power in equal measure. A 1er Cru treasure from old vine pinot noir in Ecueil, larger oak barrels give this wine breadth without overwhelming its fine-boned structure. The cool 2021 vintage is exceptionally precise, with notes of satsuma peel, crisp pear, and redcurrant cascading into a long, chalky finish and bright acidity throughout. Worthy of cellaring through 2031 or so, but oh-so-drinkable now.
