Salvo Foti, a native of Southern Sicily, had a successful career as a wine academic and oenology consultant. But, he felt called towards his beloved Mt. Etna, and knew he had to make wine. So, he founded a winery with his sons Simone and Andrea. He also founded a consortium of grape growers on Etna. Both the winery and the consortium are called I Vigneri. Both are known and loved worldwide for their championing of Etna by way of unforgettable wine.
Vinupetra Viti Centenaire is sourced from a .15 hectare plot of nerello mascalese, nerello cappuccio and granache vines no younger than 100 years, planted on stony, volcanic soil. Many of the vines are ungrafted, and Salvo thinks some may be over 250 years old. On the nose, you’ll find fire-roasted plums, alpine strawberries, black cherries, lemon leaf, and tobacco. The silkiest of textures, with fine tannins throughout. On the palate the addition of rosehips, grapefruit peel, and first flush Darjeeling tea. Stunning, singular. Only made in exceptional vintages, and only 1000 bottles made in 2018.
The integrity of your wine is our highest concern. Orders placed during the summer months will be put on hold and fulfilled as soon as temperatures permit. Learn more here.
